Porous carbonaceous preforms, made from graphite and silicon carbide (SiC) powders, with varying powder mass fractions particle sizes, were infiltrated at 1500 °C 1700 by Si-8 at. pct Zr alloy to produce dense Si-Zr-SiC composites. The experiments performed in a chamber vacuum furnace 10−2 mbar. most desirable results obtained for preforms composed of mixture SiC containing 15–20 % fraction °C. banding the Zr-rich phase observed cross-sections SiC-C pre- forms Si-Zr may help decoding reactive infiltration process binary alloys.
